Quintiva Reaches an International Audience: Featured in Wellness Voice

I’m pleased to see my work and the Quintiva Framework™ featured in Wellness Voice. Seeing these ideas reach an international audience is encouraging, particularly because they address a question that has shaped my work in addiction and recovery for more than 20 years:
Why can someone want to change, understand what they need to do, and still struggle to do it?
That gap between knowing and doing deserves more attention. Motivation matters, but it does not explain every difficulty someone encounters. We also need to understand the person, their circumstances and the support available to them.
This thinking led me to develop the Quintiva Framework™, which considers six interconnected areas: neurological, behavioural, emotional, social, spiritual and physical. Together, these offer a way to explore what might be making change difficult and where support could be most useful.
One principle sits at the heart of the framework:
“The right work at the wrong time can still fail.”
Someone may understand what is being asked of them yet feel overwhelmed, exhausted or unable to put it into practice. Before adding more expectations, we may need to help them build stability, establish manageable routines or find reliable support.
The order in which we approach change matters.
This principle also shapes the recovery education we provide at Somerton Lodge: helping people understand what is getting in their way, what needs strengthening and what they can realistically work on next.
Thank you to Wellness Voice for exploring my work and the thinking behind Quintiva. I hope the feature encourages further conversation about how we help people turn understanding into everyday change.
If you work in addiction, recovery, behavioural change or mental health, I would welcome your thoughts.
