Being a VIP guest at the UNITE to Face Addiction Rally on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., was one of the greatest privileges of my recovery journey.
Sharing such an important event with thousands of people in recovery, hearing from national leaders, and watching performances by Steven Tyler and Sheryl Crow made it an unforgettable day. More than anything, it reinforced my belief that recovery is something to be celebrated, championed, and shared with others.

Engagements and Adventures
Georgia, USA 2018
A privilege to meet with Sheriff Anderson of Bulloch County, Dr. Al Mooney, and Sarah Dasher of the Willingway Foundation to explore new ideas for strengthening recovery within Georgia's county correctional system.
The meeting was followed by a visit to Georgia state prison, where we delivered presentations on recovery and introduced The Sponsor's 12 Step Manual as a practical educational tool to help prisoners build a stronger foundation for lasting recovery.
Ghana, Africa 2016
One of the most rewarding chapters of my recovery journey was the opportunity to work alongside Dr. Al Mooney in Ghana, delivering training to healthcare professionals on addiction, detoxification, and long-term recovery.
Together, we explored the neuroscience of addiction, the practical realities of detox, and how Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and the 12 Steps share many of the same principles for lasting behavioural change. The discussions were thoughtful, challenging, and highlighted just how universal the need for recovery education really is.
Looking back, this was far more than a teaching trip—it was another reminder of where recovery can lead when you're willing to keep learning, keep serving, and keep saying yes to new opportunities.
Glasgow, Scotland 2025
It was a real privilege to be a guest at Abbeycare Scotland's annual recovery celebration in Renfrewshire, joining hundreds of people in recovery, along with their families and supporters, to celebrate lives transformed by hope, courage, and commitment.
Events like these are a powerful reminder that recovery is something to be celebrated. Seeing so many people recognised for their achievements was inspiring and reinforced my belief that lasting recovery is not only possible—it deserves to be honoured.
Washington, USA 2015
Duhram, England 2013
London, England 2024
Attending the UK Recovery Walk 2024 at Crystal Palace Park in London as a Board Trustee of Faces & Voices of Recovery UK was a real privilege.
Walking alongside thousands of people in recovery, their families, friends and supporters was a powerful reminder of what visible recovery can achieve. The sense of connection, hope and celebration throughout the day reinforced my belief that recovery should not be hidden—it should be celebrated, championed and shared with others.
